A first timer's guide to the Portes du Soleil

The Portes du Soleil is one of the biggest ski areas in the world. It links fourteen resorts across France and Switzerland and has 650km of skiable terrain. Morzine sits right in the middle of it, which is why it makes such a good base.

Do I need to be good?

No. There are runs for every level, from gentle blues to proper blacks, and local ski schools are on hand for beginners. We can arrange hire, lessons and lift passes for you, so you are not queuing up for any of it. Our guide to passes and ski hire has the details.

Which lift pass?

There are two main choices. The Morzine and Les Gets pass keeps you in that sector, which is plenty for many first timers. The Portes du Soleil pass opens up Avoriaz and Switzerland too. Both are hands free.

What if some of us do not ski?

That is fine too. Snow-shoeing, husky sledding, paragliding, massage and a very good meal out are all on the list. Have a look at what non-skiers can do in Morzine.

Where to stay

Chalet Savoy is about 50 metres from the Super Morzine lift, so you are on the snow in minutes and back for cake and a sauna after. Take a look at Chalet Savoy or send us a message and we will help you plan it.
