Christmas is over and the New Year is here!
Did you know that this January in Morzine is very busy, which means it’s loads of fun and that party feeling is still around! So here’s what’s happening through-out January that might ‘tickle your fancy’ on your winter holiday in Morzine with us.
Events in Morzine and the Portes du Soleil
7th Jan, try the night ski down the Pleney It’s a great opportunity to try something different and you won’t forget it!
9th of January, one of the world’s biggest Husky Sledge riding competitions comes to Morzine. La Grand Odyssee sees ‘mushers’ from around the world compete over a 900km course. The race takes the riders to 24 resorts including Morzine. It’s fascinating and fun to watch.
Red Bull Crashed Ice Riders Cup
Meanwhile, Avoriaz is preparing to welcome the Crashed Ice Riders Cup on 15th and 16th January. It’s a high speed, downhill skating event and part of the Ice Cross Downhill World Championship where riders can earn valuable points for the Championship. Local Crashed Ice pros are Tristan Dugerdil and Pacome Schmitt who are very excited in bringing their sport to their home town. It’s adrenaline fueled and fast, definitely worth seeing if you’re in Morzine.
If ‘ice’ is your thing, then you can buy tickets to see the local Ice Hockey team ‘The Penguins’ play at the sports centre in Morzine. There usually is a every week throughout January and the rest of the season.
Music and après
Once you’ve come of the slopes and want to party there are après events in Morzine, Avoriaz and the Portes du Soleil.
On a Thursday the Cookie Cafe at the top of the Mossettes lift have teamed up with Retro Rentals to throw a weekly ‘back into the 80’s’ party.
Also, the Inferno Bar at the top of the Nyon lift has regular, popular après parties, as well as a ‘happy hour’ at the bottom of the Ardent Telecabine. Not forgetting the Hotel Tremplin at the bottom of the Pleney ski run has a great vibe with guest DJ’s.
All the restaurants and bars in Morzine offer nibbles and special offers to tempt you in after a hard day on the slopes. If you just want to relax and chill-out, we love the Coup de Coeur, Beanies coffee shop and bar and Chez Rogers. There are many more, you’ll be ‘spoilt for choice’.
Day off from the slopes
You might want to try – every Wednesday morning, learn how to make cheese. L’Alpage is a local cheese shop which runs the cheese making sessions from the basement of the shop on Wednesday’s at 9.30am. Just turn up, taste and be merry.
If you like Art, there’s a Vincent Van Gogh exhibition at the Palais de Sport, displaying some original Van Gogh’s and work from other artists. The Cinema in Morzine has a weekly timetable of films, regularly showing English versions…such as Star Wars – The Force Awakens.
