Alpine mountain biking holidays

For adventurous mountain biking amongst some of the world’s most stunning scenery, the best place to enjoy the thrills of alpine mountain biking is in Morzine. The varied terrain means that cyclists can enjoy all kinds of experiences, from relaxed rides to challenging circuits, and nearby Morzine provides all the comforts needed after a day spent mountain biking. ‘Alps’ biking is a fixture at the resort - as part of the Portes du Soleil, Morzine has become one of Europe's key alpine mountain biking destinations in the Alps.

The Portes du Soleil is a famous destination for the quality of its infrastructure and its 1000kms of prepared mountain trails and ski lift system for bikers. There’s no better place to enjoy an alpine mountain biking experience – and there’s no better way to spend your summer holiday than mountain biking, Alps or elsewhere.

The vast amount of trails which make up the Portes du Soleil naturally mean that there is “something for everyone” on an alpine mountain biking holiday. For beginners we offer experienced guides who know the area, with many learner trails for those just starting to get the hang of mountain biking.

With such a wide range of paths and destinations, there are plenty of places to go from Morzine on alpine mountain biking expeditions – the abundance of well linked trails ensures any cyclist can venture out on day rides into Switzerland and the Portes du Soleil.

Whether you are a mountain biker, road cyclist or down-hiller, there is something for everyone in the Alps, no matter your level of experience in mountain biking. Alps cyclists enjoy a location with incredible variety – you can treat your Alps MTB to some of the best terrain in the world for an alpine mountain biking holiday.

Cross-country

If you’re looking for the best cross-country experience, there are plenty of forest paths, singletracks and doubletracks for you to conquer around Morzine!

Col de Con is the trail every biker wants to beat, 400 metres up and 1,000 metres down, and you can always find a story or two being told about it afterwards. Likewise, Mont Chery circuit is one you’ll always remember – after taking a lift to the top of Mont Chery, you can enjoy a sweeping descent that will take your breath away.

The Colorado singletrack is a beautiful pathway through the forest, and one of the most amazing you’ll find anywhere in the world, but the real challenge is Samoens Descent. You’ll need minibus support for this one as it’s up and then down for 1,000 metres.

Downhill

Morzine is home to some of the most stunning downhilling on Earth – the trails down into Les Gets are enough to challenge even the most experienced downhiller. They start off open at the top with stunning views, and soon descend into tight berm-ridden trails, and the local trail building team’s effort really shows.

Another famous downhill track is near Avoriaz.  The advanced downhill course takes you down fast and steep through tightly wooded pine trees and a rooty, rocky dirt track. Watch out for the middle section – a huge drop can send the unwary sprawling into pine trunks. With huge orange padded crash barriers to take the sting from a fall, it’s a course you won’t forget in a hurry.
