France – activity holidays on the water in Morzine
Morzine is the only place to go for real river-rafting in France. Activity holidays negotiating rapids and small waterfalls as you’re rushing down the river is a wonderful way to take in the scenery – and have a whole lot of fun at the same time! Wetsuits, life jackets, and everything you need for this great family activity are provided. There are special children’s descents for 7-12 year olds, which can be ridden with or without an adult, allowing the grown-ups to continue on through the more challenging rapids.
White-water rafting
The River Dranse, flowing from Morzine down into Lake Geneva at Thonon, is the most popular white-water river for activity holidays in France.
Canyoning at the Cascade de Nyon
Canyoning is one of the world’s most exhilarating experiences – if you have the nerve to go for it! It involves abseiling, walking, climbing, swimming, jumping and sliding along the gorges and canyons of a mountain river. It’s usually a good idea to bring old trainers as you may just find you’ve worn a hole in them by the end! This is an adventure that’s best for families bringing their older children to France – activity holidays involving canyoning have a minimum age limit of 14.
Kayaking (hot dogging)
Hire a kayak for a gentle paddle and get a new perspective on the lush alpine surroundings, or take a ‘hot dog’ for two people down the white-water rapids of the River Dranse under the watchful eye of an expert guide.
Hydrospeed
Surfing the rapids on a big polystyrene float is something your family will remember long after you return from your activity holidays. France’s picturesque River Dranse makes for an amazing ride, and although you will need to be a strong swimmer in order to safely participate, the thrills are second to none! Prices are per half-day excursion.
Fly with the birds in France – activity holidays in the air in Morzine
Every child secretly wishes they had the power to fly, or to scramble up walls like Spiderman! It’s a dream that can come true while staying in Morzine, France. Activity holidays allow you to conquer the vertical world when you visit the Alps, climbing or scrambling on massive slabs of limestone. Or how about being Superman for an afternoon, flying at almost 70mph and 240 metres above the valley? Now that’s what we call a great way to see the countryside!
Fantasticâble
You’ll need nerves of steel for this activity! An aerial runway spans two valleys and sends you soaring head first and horizontally (in true ‘Up, up and away!’ Superman style!) at speeds of up to 70 kph. It really is the ultimate white-knuckle ride in France. Activity holidays in Morzine including this flight with a difference will be the highlight of anyone’s summer! Price is per flight and includes lift pass and transport. Available to anyone from 35 – 150kgs.
Via Ferratta
This activity is a bit of a mixture between climbing and scrambling and is an exciting way of enabling beginners to experience some of the thrills, and views, of climbing. All trips are guided, but it’s definitely an activity for families with older children. The minimum age is 14 and all the equipment you’ll need is supplied. Price is per half day from Avoriaz.
Parapenting
View the mountains from a canopy, gliding high on the thermal winds. Your pilot will take care of flying the parapente so you can enjoy the views and just ride high on the adrenalin! This definitely makes young flyers feel like superheroes while on holiday in France. Activity holidays including parapenting offer glorious views of the mountains, and there’s no better place to view the Alps than Morzine. The minimum age is seven and participants must be under 100kg. Price is per flight.
