Water activity holidays in the Alps

Negotiating rapids and small waterfalls is brilliant fun and a great way to take in the scenery. Wetsuits and life jackets are provided. There are special children’s descents for 7-12 year olds which can be done with or without an adult, allowing the grown-ups to continue through on the more challenging rapid.

White-water rafting

The River Dranse flowing, from Morzine down into Lake Geneva at Thonon, is the most popular white-water river in France.

Canyoning at the Cascade de Nyon

Highly exhilarating for those with a bit of bottle! It involves abseiling, walking, climbing, swimming, jumping and sliding along the gorges and canyons of a mountain river. Wetsuits, carabiners, helmets, ropes and relays provided. Bring old trainers. Min. age 14.

Kayaking (Hot dogging)

Hire a kayak for a gentle paddle or take a hot dog for two people down the white-water rapids of the River Dranse under the watchful eye of a guide.

Hydrospeed

Surf the rapids of the River Dranse on a big polystyrene float. Although it is necessary to be a strong swimmer, the thrills and adrenalin produced during this sport is second to none! Prices are per half day.

Extreme sports in the Alps

Taming the vertical world: climbing or scrambling on beautiful slabs of limestone. Or how about being Superman for an afternoon, flying at almost 70mph and 240 meters above the valley – what a way to see the countryside!

Fantasticâble

This activity is only for the really brave! An aerial runway that spans two valleys and sends you soaring head first and horizontally (yes true superman style!)  at speeds of up to 70 kmph. It really is the ultimate white-knuckle adrenalin filled ride. Price is per flight, includes lift pass and transport. Available to anyone from 35 – 150kgs.

Via Ferratta

Somewhere between climbing and scrambling. It’s an exciting activity that allows beginners to experience some of the feelings of exposure and views only good qualified climbers’ experience. All trips are guided. Min. age 14, equipment supplied. Price is per half day from Avoriaz.

Parapenting

View the mountains from a canopy gliding high on the thermals! Your pilot will fly the parapente so you can enjoy the views and ride high on the adrenalin. Min. age 7, under 100kg. Price is per flight.

Adventure Parks

Packed with natural aerial challenges involving ladders, bridges, footbridges and zip-wires. Cascade de Nyon is suitable for all ages and great fun. For younger children the Indiana Parc in Les Gets is really good and similar in design, just on a smaller scale. Both are registered sites with fully qualified instructors.

Mountain Biking in Morzine

This sport is extremely popular from gentle rides around the town to down-hill racing tracks. Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets have one of the best summer lift networks in the world, with 24 lifts open all summer. The Portes du Soleil area offers 380km of marked itineraries, for down-hill riders there’s a permanent descent trail in Morzine which is technical and exhilarating being 3250 meters long.

Mountain biking is a great way to spend the day with the family or friends taking in the great views and fresh mountain air. Several shops offer mountain bikes for hire from trail, free ride or descent.

We will be able to advise you about accompanying guides or point you in the right direction, the choice is yours. At our Chalet Nantégué there is a secure garage to store mountain bikes and a hose for washing bikes down. Chalets Flo and Savoy also have bike storage along with selected self-catered accommodation.

Mountain walks and hikes in Morzine

Morzine has numerous walks: from easy walks through villages and hamlets to glacier hikes.

Here are a few examples of accompanied walks:

  • Afghan Walking – a technique in breathing and walking, listening to your body, finding yourself and feeling the air in your lungs.
  • Wild Animal Observation Walks – see a marmot family, a shy chamois, a colony of ants and maybe an eagle if he’s about! So many reasons for rambling.
  • High Mountain Walks – walk a glacier, tackle a rocky arter, climb the legendary Mont Blanc massif or a one and a half days walk with overnight stay in refuge.

Walking with Donkeys – ideal for the young rambler! Easy ramble along old smugglers trails for the whole family. Max weight 40kgs.

At our chalets we have lots of maps of the local area so you can plan a safe route to follow, if you want to go for a high attitude hike there are a number of local guides on hand to show you the way.

Quad-Bike

Quad-biking is a great activity to enjoy in the Alps. After a brief training session ride the quads around a set circuit with tricky areas and fast straights. Good fun for everyone!

Golf – Les Gets

In the heart of the Portes du Soleil, in wooded surroundings, the Les Gets Golf course has a hole named after the nearby peaks – with the 14th ‘Mont Blanc’ being the most impressive. This course offers a round of golf with exceptional panoramic views and is technically rewarding. You are able to hire a buggy and full or half set of clubs.
